This map shows the total number of residential units per acre of land for each census block group.

This map shows the total number of jobs per acre of land for each census block group.

The table used is LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES), Workplace Area Characteristics. Total number of jobs column values have been aggregated per census block group.

Land Use Entropy

For this metric, MapPluto land use values were reclassified as follows:

01 One & Two Family Buildings -> R (residential)
02 Multi-Family Walk-Up Buildings -> R (residential)
03 Multi-Family Elevator Buildings -> R (residential)
04 Mixed Residential & Commercial Buildings  -> R or C depending on the Zoning District 1 value.
05 Commercial & Office Buildings -> C (commercial)
06 Industrial & Manufacturing -> I (industrial)
07 Transportation & Utility -> PTU (public, transport, utility)
08 Public Facilities & Institutions -> PTU (public, transport, utility)
09 Open Space & Outdoor Recreation -> REC (recreation)
10 Parking Facilities -> V (vacant)
11 Vacant Land -> V (vacant)

Then, the equations from (reference: https://www.gislounge.com/calculating-land-use-mix-with-gis/) were utilized.

Next, the number of land use types were factored in by adding (0.2*#LandUseTypes) to the entropy value. Note that Vacant Land class has been omitted from these calculations.
